WALNUT LANE'S TOP TIPS FOR WEDDING DECOR

If you’re reading this you are obviously keen to make your wedding décor rock! I’ve put together a few tips for you to ensure your wedding decorations stand out from the crowd, and it doesn’t mean spending a fortune, just a few creative ideas.

1. HAVE FUN

Have fun with your wedding plans and décor! Dabble in a DIY day and create something truly unique. Have coloured table runners that pop, make a family photo wall to personalise your day, go overboard with paper lanterns or hanging umbrellas to create a stunning romantic setting or have a photo wall that allows guests to get photos taken which can be shared on social media for months to come. Over the top cake tables have my heart at the moment. Make sure any ideas you have fit with the overall theme of the day and your personal style.

2. FLOWERS FLOWERS FLOWERS

The allure of a setting enhanced with flowers is unbeatable. Ensure your plan for flowers has been well thought out in advance with enough budget set aside. There are numerous unique ways to incorporate flowers into your big day – flower wreaths hanging from the ceiling, drape flowers around your wedding arch, a wall of vases filled with wildflowers, spell out your initials in flowers or create a flower wall. The options are endless so chat to your local florist to discuss the ideas you would love to incorporate into your big day.

3. LIGHT UP THE NIGHT

Lighting will make all the difference at your venue – it can instantly turn a dull room into a spectacular venue. Use festoon lights, seed fairy lights, a wall of candles – whatever you can, to ensure your venue sparkles throughout the night. Fairy light curtains are the perfect way to highlight the wedding table with a romantic setting and sparklers are a great addition later in the evening to get guests involved.

4. MAKE AN ENTRANCE

Ensure the entrance to your big day starts with a bang, as this is the first impression guests will get! Use a hanging chalkboard with a personalised message about your day – welcoming guests, giving a rundown of times or an inspirational quote. Have a warm welcome by including a unique drinks station (more below in #5) and remember to consider the decorations for your ceremony as much as you consider your reception as the initial setting for your day.

5. HAVE A DRINKS TABLE THAT STANDS OUT

Nothing is more welcoming that an exciting drink to kick start your guest’s afternoon. Ensure your drinks table has a range of drink options and include chalkboard signs hanging from the drinks dispensers so guests can see instantly what is available without having to ask. You can also use cute drink vessesls such as mini milk bottles with paper straws and rustic metal drinks tubs to display the drinks and allow guests to help themselves. And of course decorate the drinks table with vases and flowers (see note on flowers above).

6. PERSONALISE

Make your day as personal as possible by including one element that shows you have thought about each guest attending your wedding and what it means to have them celebrate with you. Try something unique like including a personalised photo at each place setting of that person with the bride/groom or a photo of a trip/party/time that reminds you of them, with a hand written note on the back about the memory. Or make big batches of chutneys and place them with a nametag at each seat with a ‘Spread the love’ note. These elements can be time consuming but will be so worth it on the day and will make for an unforgettable event!
